Wellness Policy

On June 30, 2004, the President signed Public Law 108-265, the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.  Each local educational agency participating in a program authorized by the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act or the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 shall establish a local school wellness policy.

St. Joseph School recognizes the need to educate our students in the areas of encouraging healthy eating and physical activity.  We are striving to have an impact on our students’ eating and activity behaviors.

In the classroom our students are taught to eat healthfully and to be active, but they also need the opportunity to practice those behaviors.  We hope our wellness policy combines education with practice to create a healthful school environment and to encourage healthy behavior.

We have revised our wellness policy this fall to what we feel is a more detailed and realistic document.  We welcome any comments you have regarding this new version.

In conjunction with the revision of a wellness policy is the assessment of that policy’s implementation in the school.  Look for the results of that assessment in our April newsletter.
